-Arthur Ashe
2) When you encounter difficulties and contradictions, do not try to break them, but bend them with gentleness and time.
-St. Francis de Sales (Looking at YOU here, JHVH!)
3) To resist the frigidity of old age one must combine the body, the mind and the heart - and to keep them in parallel vigor one must exercise, study and love.
-Karl von Bonstetten
4) The most important thing is to be whatever you are without shame.
-Rod Steiger
5) I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.
-Og Mandino
...You know, sometimes I think I don't give humans enough credit.

--Oscar Wilde
This remains true.

Date: 2009-07-20 11:53 pm (UTC)Still, the door sweeps open without hand to move it, to reveal a disgruntled-looking dragon of deepest crimson hue- and only a little smaller than Zhilbar Himself. "And how may I help you-" At which point, she scans down a fine-printed list on the wall beside her, before turning back- "Mr. Kage?"
Oh, and did we mention she positively reeks of purest malevolent evil?
Because she positively reeks of purest malevolent evil.

Date: 2009-07-21 03:56 am (UTC)And the way past is grand indeed! The hall, set large enough to accommodate two Gojiras walking side by side, seems finished with a simple gold-and-cream look... Until one notices that the textures are slowly flowing along the walls, lit from the gem-glittering ceiling. In Kage's case, after a few dazzling moments of rainbowed shine, the display darkens save for the yellow and white stones, as a line springs forth to point the way over the warm stone beneath his feet.
It takes a turn into a hall built humanscale fairly soon, twisting and jagging through a veritable maze of walkways; passing up kitchens and laboratories, smithies and mines filled with scale-covered pygmies and a roofed-in grove featuring elves robed in gold, three different libraries and a council chamber filled with shouting jellyblobs and so on and so forth and then the door!
Pretty nice door, but nothing special. Except for the sound of declaiming Zhilbar and feminine giggling coming through it, of course.

Date: 2009-07-22 12:54 am (UTC)truck hits your spine and you can't even whine,
That's Celeste.
When you hop in the sack and get a heart attack,
That's Celeste.
Gunshots rang, bang-a-bang-bang, drink some Tang, no more gang,
THAAAAAAAAAT'S Celes-" Who's that knockin' at His door!?
Thus, the door opens, to reveal a snazzy!Kage and The Box.
THE BOX.
Kage, for his part, would see a golden dragon(par for course) floating in midair (not unusual for golden dragons), complete with a variety of intricately-detailed figurines floating in precisely delineated spaces (it could happen), opposite a young familiar lass that may have appeared at a party one time! (And that one's unique to Him.)
"Kage, good sir, how are you! And tell Me about this box you hold!" Floating on down, Zhil's a tad surprised and seeming quite genial.

Date: 2009-07-22 03:41 am (UTC)"And this box is for you, my friend. I went Shopping, which is how the aforementioned handsome Guards and Civilians received their headaches, naturally. I couldn't resist getting something for my second-favorite dragon while I was out. I hope you don't mind?" Yes, that might be a flame-flicker of Amusement in his eyes. Asking a dragon if he minds Gifts, indeed!
And he bows to the lovely young woman. "I fear I did not realize you would be here, Ma'am, or there would be two boxes in hand. I hope my faux-pas can be forgivin?"

Date: 2009-07-22 03:51 am (UTC)"There's nothing to forgive if it's not intentional. Good evening, kind sir," there was a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Would you care to join us?"

Date: 2009-07-22 03:56 am (UTC)And Kage gives a sly look to Zhil. "Did you want this now, or should I hold onto it, Goldilocks?"

Date: 2009-07-23 01:45 am (UTC)And one glance at Naoko verifies that He is never, ever, EVER going to hear the end of that one. (He's just hoping she doesn't tell her family. This does not need to spread!)
Still, even with the utterly ludicrous nicknaming, the suggestion that He might not get his present nearly led to diving directly at The Box! Indeed, it's only long experience with how much He'd get messed with if He did that enabled Him to desist. "I'll take NOW, thank you very much Toastypuff. Unless you planned on taunting Me with it some more?"

Date: 2009-07-28 12:10 am (UTC)Still, there is The Box to consider! Naturally, He'll hold it up. He'll shake it. He'll peer at it from all angles, trying to deduce what is inside from all the available clues...
Then he'll just tear open the top and twitch visibly at what's inside. And that is!

Date: 2009-07-28 12:19 am (UTC)Kage grins. "I saw it and immediately thought of you, and how it would set off the gold of your scales, O Great Lizard. And the hat, naturally, just had your name all over it."

Date: 2009-07-28 03:27 am (UTC)Time to call in those old acting skills. "How- very charming!" He'll lift it up, making sure to admire it in the light. "Very rich colouration, and sized just right. How did you ever get My measurements, anyway? I doubt I imbibed enough to forget that..." He'll flash a grin Kagewards now, very convincingly.
"Thank you very much, Sah. 'Tis quite a praiseworthy suit indeed! But it does need something..." Looking at the fedora (and quite thoroughly repressing any sign of irrational destructive impulses), He turned it one way, then another... then pulled a pheasant feather out of thin air and tucked it into the brim. "Just the right touch!"

Date: 2009-07-29 12:11 am (UTC)"Well, from what I've seen Cassie seems to thrive in them. So very conductive, after all... But I daresay I'll stick with fabrics. And maybe woven gems... HMM." Idea! An idea that will go down with a good sip- followed by looking at Naoko with pleased surprise. "The Swordsward '46, love? I didn't think we still had any! Excellent choice, if I may say."
Gesturing at another server bearing covered tray, He cocked His head Kageward. "Please, do go with an onion puff or two as well! They're nummy."

Date: 2009-08-05 01:07 am (UTC)"Silly lizard. I get Cassie the dresses because they're fireproof, unless I deliberately try to melt them. And for what I pay for them? Cassie would have to kill the twins or Hy to get me that pissed at her, and how likely is she to do that?"
Kage sips as he eyes the onion puffs. "Not to be rude, but what's in them? my system can be picky about some things." A wry grin. "Cassie and Hy don't know how lucky they are to be able to eat anything."
